Literally translated 'Pura Vida' means 'Pure life'. Not just a quaint saying, this is a Costa Rican lifestyle, encouraging people to slow down and appreciate the simpler things in the world around them. The taste of good food, the joy in good company and the full appreciation of the things we are blessed with.
While on vacation in Costa Rica in 2010, the founders of Pura Vida Bracelets, Griffin Thall and Paul Goodman, crossed paths with bracelet artisans Jorge and Joaquin. They were struck by how much the simple cotton bracelets connected to the message of 'Pura Vida. Touched by the lives of these two men, and the poverty in the area, they commissioned 400 bracelets to take home to California. Within days of displaying them in a local boutique in San Diego, the bracelets had sold out and the requests for more were flooding in. Wanting to share the message of 'Pure Life' with others, Griffin and Paul partnered with Jorge and Joaquin and 'Pura Vida Bracelets' was born.
From 2 artisans selling a few bracelets a week, Pura Vida now employs more than 200 artisans worldwide and donates a portion of its profits to more than 170 charitable organisations. To date, they have donated more than 14 million dollars to charities like SAVE.org , for the awareness and prevention of suicide and SDPride, San Diego's LGBT Pride awareness foundation. Giving back to communities has been at the core of Pura Vida since its inception and continues to improve the lives of communities and the environment every day.
